Homeschool Friday

“There is a beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions. Therefore, it is good advice to slow down a little, steady the course, and focus on the essentials when experiencing adverse conditions.”

~ President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

The last few weeks we have been getting into our school rhythm. Some days are inevitably better than others. BUT, I do know that the days we read our scriptures as a family and the children complete their Spiritual Assignments, and Curtis & I do our Personal Study – things go better.

As we have gotten used to Curtis’ new work schedule this week, I have appreciated him being home in the evenings more. On the last shift he worked he left for work at 5:15 every evening. Now, he is leaving at 8:45. This is FANTASTIC because it gives us more time with him and he is able to participate in evening activities: cheerleading, tumbling, YW, Cub Scouts, family things, etc. This has been really good for us.

Some of the things that we are working on with the children is their Quarterly PPI’s (Personal Parental Interviews) so that we can discuss goals (spiritual, Educational, & even Character). We can find out what they need/want/wish in whatever aspect they want to share with us. It gives us quality time with that one child – which, in a family of 7 children at home, it is even more vital!! We just call them in to our bedroom and spend as much time as they want/need and talk to them. We start and end with prayer and try to focus solely on the needs of that particular child. So far it is successful. YAY!! Something else we are working on is the older three children reading in their scriptures DAILY and saying their prayers DAILY so the 2 older ones can count it toward their 7-14 goal for YW/YM’s. I have also included scripture mastery verses to memorize each week. I went through the Come Follow Me lessons (Sunday School) and found things that they can blog about each week. I also went to the youth Website of the Church and found videos and stories that can uplift them each week. For the younger ones, we have them listen/watch the FRIEND Scripture Story videos each day. I think it helps them, too.

These are just a few of the things that we are finding successful this year – what about you?

Make it a great one!!
